Where did the seed of the material product originate…?
It’s a good place to begin the journey.
It’s easy to post one thing while 95% of what you currently have on is made everywhere else in the world....Well, unless you're reading this unclothed.
Take it piece by piece...
Production in once place but material comes from another...
First understand that everything starts with a seed…
Then take it from there…
Who has the seeds…?
Where are those seeds being planted in order to produce the first stages…The Crop?
Who’s committed to doing the work that others have sold off…?
You might be surprised where your journey takes you…
Well, this is the part of origination that takes a lot of grunge work…
That grunge work that involves research, process, and application…
Although the sound bite is a quicker input and usually takes no thought and effort…
The Delve work takes just a little more time to get in…
Remember, all messaging is not for everybody…it’s for those that know that thoughtful processing of a work takes time, patience, love and again thoughtfulness...
For example, when I first attempted to define what true ownership or origination of a product was, I had to think about examples of what that means for somebody who lives in a country where everything was imported from someplace else. Then sit down and really think about what is still produced in it to qualify for OG-ness. Please note, I’m specifically talking about the origins of a garment and nothing else…
You could start with the thought...
The thoughts and ideas that originate with you...
The actions...
The actions taken to bring the thought to its first stages of life...
The birthing of the project...
The steps taken to collect resources...
The selection of the resources that will be utilized...
The production phase and so on...
The materials used to start and finish...
How many of those resources are being pulled from other places?
I tend to use a simple garment to drive the point...
Though I intend to use it for an example...
The example is utilized to drive the point home...
How to take a design and market it on a product…that’s all
Now who has the stock for your product? You’ll have to figure that one out...
There’s a difference...
The seeds that get planted are where the process starts...
The seed becomes a plant...
The plant grows and produces crop...
The crop gets picked...
The crop gets marketed...
The marketed crop is spun into thread...
The thread is constructed into products...
Those products get marketed...
….Or the upcycled version...
Something gets trashed...
Someone goes and collects that trash...
The trash gets reprocessed...
The reprocess gets extracted...
The extracted gets either remolded or remixed with something else...
The trash has now been turned into something else...
This new synthetic version mimics something closely associated with it...
Whether it be the synthesized versions of cottons, polyesters, silks, mesh products, etc.
The new material will be used to construct a product and so on…
So, wherever you decide to jump in the process, be it in the beginning, middle or final stages, there’s nothing wrong with putting in a little time to understanding the “How does this really pan out?” part. Again, for the work you’ve been assigned and the time you’ve been allotted toward completing it. You gotta be willing to really put in the work to understand it all.
Carry on good people, stay the course, and encouraged to stay in Love through it all!
